Honda Adds Luxury SUV Production at Lincoln, Alabama Facility

There's been a lot of press about the hardships Honda is facing following the March 11 earthquake and tsunami disaster. It's definitely some pretty serious business. But, things aren't all bad.

We at Diamond Honda of Puente Hills, would like to emphasize that amid such hardships, the Big H continues to evolve in its constant pursuit of success. In fact, as part of an expansion effort, Honda plans to sink $97 million into its LINCOLN, Alabama facility to ready it for imminent luxury SUV production. Specifically, they're planning to add production of the Acura MDX.

Acura, for those of you who don't know, is the luxury arm of Honda. The building and testing of new equipment in the LINCOLN facility are expected to be complete in just over a year. Production of the MDX is expected to officially shift from Canada to LINCOLN, Alabama shortly thereafter, in 2013

Why has Honda decided to move production of the MDX to LINCOLN, Alabama? Essentially, the Japanese automaker wanted to make more room at their facility in Canada to build the increasingly popular CR-V SUV. In addition to assuming production of the MDX, the LINCOLN, Alabama facility will also continue to make the Odyssey minivan, Pilot SUV, Ridgeline pickup - and their engines.
